What causes it

The problem

Standard cementitious grout is porous, which means it can stain, discolour and support mould growth over time — particularly in showers and high-moisture areas that don't dry out quickly between uses.

Signs to look for
  • 01Grout that discolours again soon after cleaning
  • 02A shower or wet area used heavily by the household
  • 03A previous regrout that hasn't held up well
  • 04A preference for a lower-maintenance, longer-term finish
Our approach

How we solve it

Epoxy grout is denser and less porous than traditional grout, offering greater resistance to staining, mould and water absorption. This makes it particularly well suited to shower floors and other demanding wet areas. We use Mapei Kerapoxy where appropriate, applying it with the additional care epoxy systems require to achieve a clean, consistent finish.

What you get
  • Better resistance to staining than standard grout
  • Lower water absorption into the grout joint
  • A denser finish that holds its colour over time
  • Easier to maintain day to day when properly installed

How the job runs

The exact scope of work is confirmed in your quote — not every job needs every step.

01 / Assess

We confirm epoxy grout is the right fit for your tiles, area and how the space is used.

02 / Prepare

Existing grout is removed and the joints are prepared for the epoxy system.

03 / Restore

Epoxy grout is mixed and applied with the methodical technique it requires.

04 / Finish

Joints are finished, surfaces cleaned, and the result inspected for a sharp finish.

What's behind the finish

Every epoxy job is scoped clearly before we start, carried out with materials suited to wet-area conditions, and finished with a clean, professional standard we're happy to stand behind.

Our workmanship is covered by a 5-year warranty. This covers the standard of our workmanship — it isn't a waterproofing warranty, and doesn't cover plumbing faults, structural movement, or damage caused by third-party work or lack of ordinary maintenance after completion.

See our Warranty & Aftercare page for full coverage, exclusions and aftercare information.

Before your appointment

Where possible, avoid using the area for approximately 12 hours before scheduled work, so the surface is dry and ready.

After your appointment

Allow approximately 24 hours after completion before using the area, unless we've advised otherwise for the specific epoxy system used on your job.

FAQs

Epoxy questions

Epoxy grout is denser and less porous than standard cement-based grout, so it resists staining and absorbs less water. It's applied differently and costs more, but can be worth it for the right area.

For high-use wet areas, many homeowners find the extra durability and stain resistance worthwhile over the life of the grout. We're happy to talk through whether it makes sense for your specific bathroom.

No. Epoxy grout has lower water absorption than standard grout, but it isn't a waterproofing system and doesn't replace or repair a waterproofing membrane underneath the tiles.

Generally, yes — its lower porosity means it resists staining better than standard grout day to day. It still benefits from normal bathroom cleaning; it isn't maintenance-free.

It typically has a slightly denser, more uniform appearance. We'll show you the finish during your quote so there are no surprises.
